Lagos SUBEB holds retreat on Y2017 budget implementation

Lagos SUBEB holds a retreat regarding the 2017 budget at Dover Hotel. Maters discussed is to go back to the drawing board to find out ways to come out from economic recession. Matters concerning list of priorities in the budget, education budget in particular was also discussed.

Informed by the various challenges faced in the course of executing
the Y2016 plans, the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB,
Executive Chairman, Dr Ganiyu Oluremi Sopeyin on Monday declared open
a 2-Day retreat on implementation of Y2017 budget at the Dover Hotel,
Lagos.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr Ganiyu Sopeyin noted that with
the economic recession and high inflationary rate, it has become
necessary for every stakeholder in the basic education sector to go
back to the drawing board with a view to readjust in reality with
economic situation.

“We are here today as an organisation to discuss on the best ways to
adopt in the implementation of the budget figures”, he said.
He listed some priority areas of the Board in year 2017 to include
completion of on going projects, contrustruction and rehabilitation of
blocks of classrooms, provision of fences, school gates, furniture,
instructional materials, conduct of unified examination and payment of
salaries among others.
The Chairman urged participants at the retreat to cooperate with the
Board so as to deliver better service to Lagosians in line with the
present administration policy on better service delivery.
Dr. Sopeyin thanked the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for
providing the wherewithal to move education forward in addition for
making public schools better.
