UPDATE FROM THE NIGERIA STOCK EXCHANGE



The Nigeria stock exchange saw an increase in it’s volume of shares for the week ending 24th September 2016 with Financial Service Sector having the highes volumes and deals.

A turnover of 4.331 billion shares worth N16.803 billion in 16,797 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of the Exchange in contrast to a total of 611.527 million shares valued at N5.495 billion that exchanged hands last week in 9,650 deals.

The Financial Service Sector contributed 96.45% and 58.25% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively. A volume of 177 billion shares valued at N9.788 billion traded in 9,805 deals was traded during the week. The Financial Service industry occupied 96% of the total shares traded in the stock exchange. This is followed by Consumer Goods Sector with 533 million shares worth N5.017 billion in 2,855 deals. The third place was occupied by the Conglomerates Industry with a turnover of 31.751 million shares worth N125.102 million in 594 deals.

The NSE All-Share Index and Market Capitalization appreciated by 1.39% to close the week at 28,247.07 and N9.703 trillion respectively.

The following companies proposed dividend for the week under review. Nigeria Enamel Ware proposed a dividend of 45 kobo, PZ Cussoms 50 kobo and Tripple Gee 3 kobo (all in per share).

Guinness Nigeria Plc published it’s audited annual report for the year ended 30th June, 2016. This shows a Revenue of N101,973,030,000; loss after tax for 2016 was N2,015,886,000 but a profit after tax for 2015 of N7,794,899,000.
